Intensive
Care Unit
Your family member or friend has been placed in the Intensive
Care Unit because they need continuous observation for any
change in their condition. The patients in Intensive Care
may be connected to machines that continually check their
heart function, breathe for them, or regulate intravenous
medications. These machines help to identify, prevent, or
correct problem conditions when they occur. The nurses have
specialized training to understand the patient’s condition
and respond to any abnormal situation that may develop with
the patient.
During this time, the patient needs plenty of rest so the
body will heal. Visiting hours are limited to short periods
to allow patients to rest as much as possible. It is important
that you provide a phone number where you can be reached,
as a doctor or nurse may need to inform you of a change in
the patient’s condition.
• Visitors are limited to immediate family members.
• Visits are limited to two visitors for 15 minutes
