Angel Medical Center has a proud history that is intertwined with the residents of Western North Carolina. From the inception of the clinic that was established by Dr. Furman Angel in 1923, through the construction of our current facility funded in large part by community contributions through Operation Heartbeat, our citizens have been committed to maintaining a first class facility. We are grateful for the support of the community that allowed us to provide the women and men of Macon County with a state-of-the-art breast cancer detection system. According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected in the earliest stages, the five-year survival rates approach 100%. Therefore we are collaborating with the Macon County Public Health Center to get the word out about the importance of an annual mammogram for women age 40 and over, or those who have had a history of breast cancer in their family, because early detection of disease saves lives.
As a nonprofit hospital that has served the residents of Macon County and surrounding communities, we are able to offer compassionate patient care delivered by highly skilled individuals who, in many cases, are your neighbors. We have an opportunity to ensure that our community will continue to have access to dedicated professionals providing compassionate and superior healthcare to all. The Foundation for Angel Medical Center is committed to building a strong foundation so that our community hospital is here when you need us. It is our responsibility to join this effort to provide medical equipment to bring breakthrough treatments to the bedside, to retain and strengthen our professional staff by providing additional training, to offer health education to the community, and assist with resources for patients who cannot afford health care and the related expenses. We hope you will join us in our goal to make the difference in your hospital.

GAY TODSEN, FOUNDATION ASSISTANT
Gay Todsen joined the Foundation for Angel Medical Center to assist with the fundraising efforts of our community hospital. She has served as a member of the AMC Auxiliary Board. After receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas Tech University, Gay worked as a savings and loan examiner for the Federal Home Loan Bank Board in Texas and Florida. She left government service for a career in banking with Guaranty Federal Savings and Loan in St. Petersburg, Florida, which later became a division of Goldome, a savings bank based in Buffalo, New York. During this time, she discovered her interest in accounting and took a leave of absence to attend the University of South Florida where she received a Bachelor of Arts, a Masters of Accountancy, and was subsequently licensed as a CPA. She returned to her employer, Goldome, and became an Assistant Vice President and Director of Strategic Planning.
"I feel that the objectives of the Foundation and the Auxiliary are
very similar. Although they work in different ways, both organizations
are working to support the mission of Angel Medical Center. I hope there
will be opportunities to combine their strengths and talents of each organization
to accomplish even more for the hospital."

It was during this time that Bob became acquainted with Angel Medical Center through Angel Hospice and Palliative Care. Bob says that without the wonderful involvement and care provided by Angel Hospice, his task would have been impossible to perform. Bob wanted to give back what he could to Angel Medical Center and volunteers his time to help promote the Foundation for Angel Medical Center. His most recent project includes helping to create marketing materials for the Foundation. |
