Chest/Pulmonary
Embolism CT Scan
Overview-
A Chest and Pulmonary Embolism CT Scan demonstrates “cross
sectional” images of the lungs, heart, great vessels,
and bones of the chest area.
Preparation-
If your physician has ordered your exam to be done with contrast,
you cannot eat or drink anything four hours before your test.
v If you are over 70 and/or a diabetic, you will need to have
lab work done to check your creatinine and BUN levels before
you can have the procedure done with contrast.
Length of Exam-
The Chest/Pulmonary Embolism CT Scan will take approximately
15 to 30 minutes.
How is the exam performed?
You will be asked to change into a gown and lie down on the
CT table. You will be asked to hold your breath for a short
period of time during the exam. You will also be asked to
lay completely still during the procedure. If your physician
requests that your study be done with contrast, we will need
to start an IV. Please see the IV contrast sheet located on
the main CT page for more information about the contrast.
Results-
Please contact your physician for the results of your test.
The results will be available within a couple of days.
