Head
CT Scan
Overview-
A head CT is a procedure that images the brain and surrounding
structures of the head.
Preparation-
• No Contrast- There is no preparation
for the procedure.
• With Contrast- If your physician
ordered the procedure with contrast, you cannot have anything
to eat or drink four hours prior to the procedure. If you
are over 70 and/or diabetic you must have lab work that shows
your BUN and creatinine levels before the contrast can be
administered.
Length of exam-
The Head CT will take approximately 15 to 30 minutes.
How is the exam performed?
You will be asked to lie down on the CT table with your head
in a cradle. It is very important that you hold your head
completely still during the procedure. The CT table will move
you in and out of the CT scanner while it takes pictures.
Results-
Please contact your physician for the results of your test.
The results will be available within a couple of days.
