NM Radionuclide Voiding Cystogram (VCUG)

Overview-
This test is ordered as an evaluation of suspected vesicourethral reflux in patients with urinary tract infections.

Preparation-
No preparation is necessary.

Length of exam-
60 minutes

How is the exam performed?
A nurse will first insert a catheter into the bladder. You will then sit on a bedpan with your back against a camera. Sterile saline with a radioactive tracer is dripped into the bladder until it is full. The camera will be taking images the entire time the bladder is being filled and emptied. You will be asked to empty your bladder and the catheter will be removed.

Results-
Please contact your physician for the results of your test. The results will be available within a couple of days.
