NM Renal Scan

Overview-
To evaluate flow and function of the kidneys.

Preparation-
Well hydrated prior to exam.

Length of exam-
60 minutes

How is the exam performed?
The technologist will insert an IV in your arm. You will be injected with a radioactive tracer while lying on your back. The camera will be under the table and will start taking images immediately following the injection. You will need to lie very still while the camera is acquiring images. After about 15 minutes, you will be given a second injection of lasix. The camera will take pictures for 15 minutes longer and then the technologist will remove the IV.

Results-
Please contact your physician for the results of your test. The results will be available within a couple of days.
