Ultrasound
Overview-
An abdominal ultrasound looks at the gallbladder, liver, pancreas,
bile ducts, kidneys, aorta and spleen. These procedures can
help your physician determine if problems exist with your
abdominal organs. Some of the disease processes that can be
identified include gallstones, aneurysms, liver masses, etc.
Preparation-
• Kidneys (Renal)-
Please do not go to the bathroom for two hours prior to the
exam. The kidneys and bladder are examined.
• Gallbladder,
Liver, Bile Ducts, Pancreas, Aorta and Spleen- Please do not
eat or drink anything for six to eight hours before the exam.
Routine medications may be taken with a sip of water.

Length of exam-
The ultrasound examination will take approximately thirty
minutes.
How is the exam performed?
You will be asked to lie on the ultrasound table with the
abdominal area exposed. The ultrasound technologist will apply
gel to your abdomen. An ultrasound instrument, also known
as a transducer, is moved over the appropriate body parts.
Images are taken with you lying on your back and side.
Results-
Please contact your physician for the results of your test.
The results will be available within a couple of days.
