Breast
Ultrasound
Overview-
A breast ultrasound looks at the tissues in the breast. This
exam is usually ordered by your physician as a follow up to
a mammogram or for lumps in younger patients. It is a useful
test in distinguishing fluid filled areas (cysts) in the breast
from solid areas.
Preparation- No prep
Length of exam- The exam will take approximately
30 minutes
How is the exam performed?
You will lay on your back and a small amount of ultrasound
gel is placed on the area of interest in the breast. The transducer
is used to take images of the breast. These images will be
compared to the mammogram if it exists.
Results-
Please contact your physician for the results of your test.
The results will be available within a couple of days.
